Tassie Car Rentals

Number One for Value

Terms and Conditions

Excess Reduction

A standard $4000 excess applies to our vehicles, unless otherwise noted on the rental contract.

All OUR cars are covered by third party property damage cover. Any damage to our cars is included in the rental however the aforementioned excess applies.

However, the excess can be reduced to a low $250* by the payment of the aforementioned Excess Reduction Fee (ERF).

*$500 excess if under the age of 25

Please note the excess is collected at the time of rental as a "Bond" and refunded if no damage has occurred and once traffic and speeding fines have been cleared. This may take up to 21 days.

Regarding third-party excess reduction and/or travel insurance

It is the responsibility of the customer to contact the third party provider in regards to compensation for insurance. If the customer elects to not take the ERF with Tassie Car Rentals, the full excess MUST be lodged as a bond.

Payment

Payment must be made in full for the total balance of the rental, as well as the refundable bond, at the time of vehicle pick up. No exceptions.

Vehicle Availability

Vehicle availability is not guaranteed until a booking deposit is paid after submitting a booking request. No exceptions.

Vehicles listed in the quotation process or the vehicles page DOES NOT indicate availability and is merely there to provide information and an accurate quote on what could be rented. It is not good enough to assume the online quotation system means a car is available as availability of vehicles is manually (read: human) controlled. Trying to claim that we (Tassie Car Rentals) are at fault because you booked accommodation etc on an assumption and before a deposit is paid and confirmation is received will simply not work.

Cancellation Policy

All booking deposits and/or pre-payments are non-refundable. However, in most cases, subject to availability, existing deposits and pre-payments can be used as a credit on the next rental.

If cancelled within 2 days of pickup we reserve the right to charge the full amount of the total rental, even if the only payment made prior was the booking deposit. So please give ample notice of cancellation.

Tassie Car Rentals reserves the right to cancel any reservation, due to circumstances that may be unforeseen, such as a reserved vehicle suddenly becoming unservicable (and a suitable replacement not being available) or the customer being unreasonable, for any reason. In general we would attempt to provide at least 7 days notice to the customer, where possible.

**COVID-19 Exceptions**

We offer two options in the event of COVID related cancellation:

1. a refund of the deposit, minus $25 cancellation/processing fee (eg. a $100 deposit = $75 refund).
Or
2. a full credit of the deposit towards a future booking with us (same as non COVID cancellations)

The aforementioned time frames do not apply, cancellation can happen any time for no penalty; the above two options just apply in the context of a COVID-19 related cancellation.

Kilometre Allowance

200kms per day are included for any hire, at the standard rate, for hire periods of less than 7 days. 300kms per day are available for an extra $5 per day.

For rental periods of 7 days or longer you have a choice of a $5 discount per day off the standard rate, which leaves you with 100kms per day. This is especially suitable if you are needing to hire a vehicle for simple commuting and not touring all over Tasmania. For the standard, non-discounted rate, Unlimited Kms are automatically included.

Extra kilometres are charged at 25c per exceeded kilometre.

Why do we only allow Unlimited Kilometres for rental periods of 7 days or longer? Because we believe any rental less than a week that needs more than 200 or 300 kilometres per day is simply too harsh on the vehicles. We treat our vehicles with respect and care and hope our renters can do the same.

Unsealed-Road Cover

Unsealed Road Cover can be purchased as an extra at the time of booking or vehicle pickup.

HOWEVER, Unsealed Road Cover DOES NOT mean "off-road" cover. An unsealed road must still be a public road suitable for tourists. Taking a vehicle to places such as the bush, unapproved dirt roads/laneways or the beach will void your insurance cover.
